Parenting: Why are my FuzziBunz wicking?

600| Sat, 08 Dec 2007 02:15:00 GMT| itags.org Seeker| Comments (11)
I've had this current batch of FBs since January, and washed them in Allen's Naturally almost all the time. (I think I washed them in Tide :bag: about four times, total. I needed dipes and didn't have time to drive all the way to the natural foods store.) DS has recently started wetting through - the PUL is just not doing its job!
I've never dried them in the dryer, never used fabric softener, never bleached them - you know, all the obvious stuff. So what's up? I've tried running an extra rinse cycle to make sure I'm not leaving soap on them. Should I try a vinegar rinse? (Side note: my bug print bunz was the first to start failing.)

are they sweating, or leaking out the side?

Both.

They occasionally leak from the leg openings - I think that problem is because the legs aren't fitting quite snug enough. DS has grown lengthwise and lost girth (lost some baby chub when he started walking) since we bought this batch, and they fit differently now then when they were bought.

They sweat from the backside, near the leg openings.

It's not the tide...we've used tide for 8 months and haven't had any problems...I'd contact MOE...they will be able to tell you what to do, and will replace them if necessarry. :)

you may need another size? or you may need to stuff with more.

But you could try stripping them with dawn. wet them in the sink and take a tooth brush or nail brush and scrub the fleece both inside and out with dawn and then rinse. see if that helps any.

Well, I don't think we can do a different size - the rise on a medium just isn't enough. And I don't think it's the insert - he just woke up with wet PJs after being in a FB stuffed with 2 hemp (JoeyBunz) inserts. (He was only in those for 2 hours.)
Dawn, huh?? Hmmm... I'm willing to try anything!! :thumb

have you tried the PT size?

were the inserts wet? if so how wet? if not then the fleece may be repelling, and you should try the dawn.

Maybe I'm completely wrong here, but I thought I read somewhere that the PUL had to go in the dryer every once in a while to help maintain its waterproof-ness. And once in the beginning to "set" the dipe and seal the stitching holes.

I could be wrong, I've been doing so much diaper reading/browsing that I dream about dipes now! :nut

Have you tried washing them in hot water several times without any detergent?

itags.org Seeker | Tue, 11 Dec 2007 12:08:00 GMT |

If worse comes to worse, try the waterproofing spray. If they still leak after that, you know it's a fleece or fit issue. Not a waterproof issue.

No, I haven't tried that. I have tried several extra rinses.

You know, about the PUL going in the dryer - I always thought that it was strange that when I got my BummiSWW in the mail, the directions specifically state to put the cover in the dryer to set the PUL, but FB directions say that the dipes shouldn't go in the dryer, because it will ruin the PUL.

HMMM!! :scratch ...and my bummis never sweat...

I know we'll have to move up to PT eventually, so maybe I should try a couple to see if they'll work: it's not like I'm going to be losing any money. Anyone know if the waist in a PT is more snug than the waist in a large? I've had such a hard time finding FB that fit properly!
