Nutrition & Lung Health: Cardio after eating.

Hi!
I could use some advice on wheather it's ok to do medium to heavy cardio about half an hour after eating dinner.

My dinner isn't heavy, it is basically 100gms of lean mean and vegetables.

My weight training is in the morning and my PT wants me to do my cardio in the evening. The only time I have is after my meal.

I understand that the blood flow is then shared between the stomach and the exercising muscles, it never causes me to have an upset stomach.

Would this way still be beneficial for weightloss?

I prefer chicken cause for me meat is quite heavy food. but if you feel yourself ok then it's not a problem, and half an hour is enough. But also it's very personal someone can even do cardio right after the meal and others need to wait for 2 hours.. So if you feel yourself ok then do it.

Thanks Dashik :-).
I do have chicken breast most of the time.

I guess I just wanted to know if I would be using up my dinner for energy? And perhaps it will assist in greater weight loss?

it's proven that insulin blunts the fat burning process. by consuming carbs and such, u're slowing down ur fat burning process.. i dont 'know about veggies, but i do my cardio right before i eat again, usually ~2 hours after my last meal.

Yo fellow Aussie..

About 30 mins after you eat most of the nutrients you have just eaten will be available to your body so yeah cardio will absorb these as they are the most readily available. It will assist in weight loss slightly, but i seriously reckon you do you cardio before you eat so as you oxidise bodyfat rather than the nutrients from your dinner you have just eaten.

Alot of people don't get the metabolics behind what your body is doing. For you body to break down fat it needs an available protein source which you will have plenty of after you eat your dinner. So what will happen is your body will use the available glycogen in your bloodstream from what you just ate and THEN move onto body fat.

Any protein you just ate will get utilised straight away for your cardio as it is the most available. AVAILABLE i the key word with cardio.

I always do my cardio on an empty stomach and eat afterwards so that my body uses my energy reserves stored in my body fat and then when I eat I ingest protein to help repair my muscles and break down any excess carbohydrate in my system.

Ive lost just over 65 kg in just under 11 months but I might not know what I'm on about still but its working for me

Enjoy the Mundene v Green fight on Wednesday too

Ciao

Nath,

Thank you for your reply, this has helped me.

I had a feeling the body would use the available nutrition first. But my understanding was, if it used the food that I had recently eaten, then the calories in that meal will be used up, hence increasing my weight loss.

Cant wait to see the boxing :-)

the best time to do cardio IN MY PERSONAL PREFERENCE is either a good 2 mile stroll after a meal or right after lifting. If you do it in the morning go right ahead but its not the best time. I got in great shape just moving my ass and going for a walk after either dinner or lunch. You can feel your body heat rise faster when doing this even when its cold out

are ^^ his dad?!

bump to what bignath says, but as long as you feel comfortable doing cardio 30min after eating, I personally require about 1.5 hours before I can get into it, otherwise I'll feel like spewing.

What I do is either cardio on an empty stomach, or 1.5-2 hours after a low carb meal, then eat afterwards.

Hope this helps. good luck
