I think AT&T should have at least delayed the bill until the insurance came through. But if homeowners are going to build in areas threatened by fire, they should be prepared to be responsible for any losses caused by the fire. On NPR they were talking about how construction in these areas is irresponsible because you build the house and live in it, regardless of the risk - but when the fire comes,
firefighters who warned you not to build there have to risk their lives for your ass.
Of course, I'm not saying that I don't feel sorry for them. They've lost their homes and nobody deserves that. But it is unreasonable of them to expect to pass their losses onto AT&T. It would be like me losing my house and then expecting a random miscer to pay for the damages out of 'compassion'.
